New Project Broadcast Product Release

Smarter Keywords, Cleaner Data, and Faster Messaging Workflows

Project Broadcast just rolled out a major product update designed to do one thing exceptionally well: save you time while reducing complexity in your messaging workflows.

This release is now live in the Project Broadcast web app, with updated iOS and Android apps following shortly. Whether you’re a small business owner, marketer, or organization relying on text message communication to stay connected with your audience, these updates focus on the parts of the platform you use every day: keywords, contacts, lists, campaigns, and data management.

The result is a more polished, flexible, and powerful experience that eliminates common workarounds and gives you better control over how your messaging system operates.

Below is a full breakdown of what’s new and how it helps.

Smarter Keywords for More Reliable Automations

Keywords are the foundation of automated SMS workflows. In this release, Project Broadcast introduced several enhancements that make keywords easier to manage, understand, and reuse over time.

Keyword Descriptions

You can now add descriptions to your keywords. This may seem small, but it solves a real problem: six months from now, you no longer have to wonder why a keyword exists or what automation it triggers. Descriptions create clarity for long-term maintenance and for teams managing shared accounts.

Keyword Aliases

Keyword Aliases allow multiple words or phrases to trigger the same automation. For example, if someone texts “wildcats” instead of “wildcat,” the same workflow still runs. This reduces missed opportunities and makes your automations more forgiving of real-world behavior.

Pause Keywords Without Deleting Them

You can now disable a keyword’s auto-reply without deleting the keyword itself. This makes it easy to pause campaigns, adjust logic, or revisit an automation later—without losing your setup.

Together, these updates make keyword-based automation more resilient, easier to manage, and better aligned with how people actually text.

Tag Merging: Clean Up Contact Chaos

Over time, many accounts accumulate duplicate or inconsistent tags such as “Customer,” “customer,” and “customer-2025” that all mean the same thing.

With the new Tag Merging feature, you can combine multiple tags into a single tag, either by selecting an existing tag or creating a new one. Once merged, the old tags can be removed safely.

This leads to:

  • Cleaner segmentation
  • More accurate targeting
  • Less confusion when filtering or building campaigns

It’s a foundational improvement for anyone serious about contact organization.

Introducing Smart Lists: Flexible, Reusable Contact Groups

One of the most powerful additions in this release is Smart Lists.

Smart Lists provide a dynamic way to group contacts without constantly rebuilding lists from scratch. You can create a Smart List by:

  • Adding contacts individually
  • Applying filters
  • Selecting tags

Once created, Smart Lists can be reused across the platform—including Campaigns, Broadcasts, and Keywords. This makes it significantly easier to maintain consistent targeting, speed up message setup, and ensure your audiences stay aligned across channels.

Smart Lists also lay the groundwork for more advanced segmentation as your messaging strategy grows.

Custom Fields That Match Real-World Data

Previously, all custom fields in Project Broadcast were text-only. This often meant forcing numbers, dates, or yes/no values into plain text fields. That limitation is now gone.

Custom fields can now be defined as:

  • Text
  • Number
  • Date
  • Boolean (yes/no)

This change unlocks cleaner data, more precise filtering, and more powerful automation logic. Your contact data can now reflect how you actually use it, rather than working around technical constraints.

Contact Management Improvements You’ll Notice Immediately

Several updates in this release focus on making contact management faster and more intuitive:

  • Advanced Search by creation date, allowing you to filter contacts based on when they were added
  • Independent first and last name search, making it easier to find contacts quickly
  • Address fields added to contact profiles, allowing you to store physical address information directly
  • Bulk deletion of archived contacts, simplifying data cleanup

Each of these improvements reduces friction when managing large or growing contact lists.

Add Photos to Your Contact Card for a More Personal Touch

You can now upload a photo directly to your contact profile. When your contact is shared, the photo is included in the vCard, making you immediately recognizable on a recipient’s phone.

This is especially useful for relationship-driven businesses where personal connection matters and saved contacts should feel human, not generic.

Export Chat History with Ease

Project Broadcast now includes a Chat Export feature that allows you to export conversation history to a CSV file.

You can:

  • Export all chat history or a specific date range
  • Have the file automatically generated and emailed to the address on your account

This is particularly valuable for record-keeping, analysis, compliance, or internal reporting.

Campaign Visibility Improvements

For users running campaigns, there’s a clarity upgrade that eliminates guesswork. If a campaign message applies a keyword after it sends, that keyword is now clearly displayed in the campaign message list.

This makes it easier to understand what automations are triggered and how contacts move through your workflows.

Performance and Infrastructure Enhancements

In addition to visible features, several under-the-hood improvements shipped with this release:

  • The date and time selector now behaves correctly when values are selected
  • The API now supports multiple images
  • Overall platform performance is smoother and more responsive

These changes improve reliability and scalability across the system.

Built to Reduce Clutter and Give You Control

This release is about refinement—cleaner data, smarter automation, and workflows that scale with you instead of slowing you down.

Whether you’re managing a small list or a complex messaging operation, these updates help reduce manual effort, eliminate confusion, and give you more control over how your communication works.
